Workshop with the Swedish National Board of Trade – Kommerskollegium

Swedish companies invited to share trade challenges with the National Board of Trade

Summary: SwedCham roundtable with the Swedish trade attaché

SwedCham hosted an informal discussion between member companies, the EuroCham EU desk and Hannes Berggren, trade attaché at the Swedish Embassy, posted by the National Board of Trade. The Board provides peer-to-peer technical assistance to partner governments, and its work in Indonesia will support implementation of the EU–Indonesia CEPA. The purpose was to hear from companies which issues matter most.

Key issues raised

  1. Predictability of import quota and license approvals
  2. Local content requirements (TKDN) and expectations on localization
  3. Consistency in customs classification
  4. Import licensing structures and their effect on costs
  5. Long-term planning in the mining sector
  6. Alignment of technical standards with local conditions
  7. Adapting new environmental and packaging regulation to the Indonesian context
  8. The scope of halal certification requirements
  9. Coordination between ministries and levels of government

Participants welcomed CEPA as a strong signal of Indonesia’s commitment to open trade, and noted that its benefits will depend on aligning regulations and procedures with the agreement during implementation.
